Amazing Bronx River Flotilla

SATURDAY, MAY 12

Families First Brooklyn Spring Carnival
The nonprofit family-support organization shuts the street down to traffic for a petting zoo, a merry-go-round and other rides, live music, dancing and barbecue. That's the kind of support we can all use. Sat May 12 10am--3pm. Baltic St between Clinton and Court Sts, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn (familiesfirstbrooklyn.org). Subway: F, G to Bergen St. Free. Free; rides cost exra ($2 apiece, all-day pass $25). All ages.

Fair at the Square
The Boogie-Down celebrates its cultural richness with art walks, storytelling, craft workshops, and exhibits in Owen Dolan Park Plaza and the Huntington Free Library. Families also enjoy music by local indie acts, participate in a scavenger hunt and take a free ride on the Bronx Culture Trolley. Sat May 12 11am--6pm. Westchester Sq at Lane and E Tremont Aves, Bronx (718-931-9500, bronxarts.org). Subway: 6 to E Tremont Ave. Free. All ages.

P.S. 84 Spring Fair
You'll need to stay for the whole six hours to try every activity at this extravaganza. Kids can jump around in a bouncy castle, whiz down a 16-foot slide, get a henna tattoo, and do arts and crafts. The whole family can watch performances by the school's international folk dancers and join in karaoke. Sat May 12 11am--5pm. P.S. 84, The Lillian Webber School, 32 W 92nd St between Central Park West and Columbus Ave (212-799-2534, 84web.org). Subway: B, C, 1, 2, 3 to 96th St. Free; activity tickets cost extra ($1--$3). Ages 18 months to 12 years.

West Side Montessori School Spring Fair
At this alfresco Upper West Side get-together, families enjoy homemade food, games and a thrift sale. Admission is free, but tickets for food and games cost extra. Sat May 12 11am--5pm. West Side Montessori School, 309 W 92nd St between Riverside Dr and West End Ave (212-662-8000, wsmsnyc.org). Subway: 1, 2, 3 to 96th St. Free. All ages.

Hudson River Pageant
The route of this parade of 15-foot puppets and costumes is lined with stations offering harmonic chanting, oyster planting, river cleaning, live catch-and-release fishing and more. Sat May 12 1--5pm. Hudson River Park between Jane and Warren Sts (212-777-7969, earthcelebrations.com). Subway: A, C, 1 to Chambers St; E to World Trade Center; 2, 3 to Park Pl. Free. All ages.
