Cathédrale Saint Nicolas (Eglise Russe) review 2 Users say 3/5 Rate it

One of the most striking examples of Russian Orthodox architecture outside Russia, this cathedral is a wonderfully incongruous addition to Nice's pantheon of churches. Its five brilliantly coloured, onion-domed cupolas announce its presence from some way off and, once inside, the visual feast continues with a beautiful iconostasis, augmented by a huge number of intricate carvings and frescoes. Dating from the early decades of the 20th century, the interior captures a lost epoch of Russian splendour personified by Tsar Nicolas II, under whose patronage the cathedral was built. A dress code, excluding shorts, short skirts and T-shirts, is strictly enforced.

Charging me €3 and then telling me I can't go in wearing shorts. How does the church expect to welcome ordinary people into its midst ? No wonder Christian congregations are shrinking.
But the church looked great (from the outside)
