Théâtre Francis Gag

Théâtre Francis Gag review Rate it

The eponymous Francis Gag, a much-admired guardian angel of Nice's dialect, kept the spoken word alive through numerous plays, productions of chants niçois (traditional songs of the region) and hundreds of radio broadcasts spanning almost half a century. Now, though, since the death of Gag Senior, it has been left to his son (who runs the theatre) and to the city of Nice (who owns it) to continue the campaign. And they're certainly not lacking in energy. Performances range from productions of obscure Niçois plays or reinterpreted classics from the quill of Molière through to modern theatre that sees the stage occupied by everyone from rap artists to dance troupes tackling regional folkloric routines.
