Popular since the 19th century, this lofty café somehow manages to get away with a garish cream-and-turquoise colour combination, perhaps because it leads to a fine backroom with pool tables. Other attractions include weekend breakfasts, vested waiters, a non-smoking room (off to the left side of the bar) and a more modern terrace one level below with free Wi-Fi.
