The Inn at the Spanish Steps & The View at the Spanish Steps

The Inn at the Spanish Steps & The View at the Spanish Steps review 1 Users say 1/5 Rate it

The Inn offers luxury boutique accommodation smack in the middle of via Condotti, one of the world's most famous shopping streets, while the View enjoys a slightly more tranquil position on the top floor of a palazzo at the end of the same street. Rooms at the Inn are an extravagant mix of plush fabrics and antiques; some of the deluxe rooms have 17th-century frescoes. The View's decor is more restrained, with sober grey and blue fabrics, dark-wood floors and black and white tiled bathrooms. The junior suite boasts a dead-ahead view of the Spanish Steps. Breakfast is served on the bijou terrace when weather permits.

Upon booking my reservation for a Deluxe King Room, I was so excited to be visiting Rome with my family that I put into the 'Notes' of my on-line booking I would be traveling with my wife and two small children. Within minutes, someone by the name Samanta emailed to explain that, based on my 'Notes', my reservation could not be honored as, despite the size and age of the children, the room was not suitable for four people. In full appreciation of her position and flattered by the prompt response, I simply requested that my reservation be canceled so that I could continue to explore all my options. Within minutes, an individual by the name of Marco replied to my request to Samanta stating, (this is a direct copy-and-paste) "I wish to inform you that is not possible to cancel anymore. You have chosen a no refundable discounted rate. We can cancel it but there is no possibility to have your money back." What? Are you serious? Not possible? The reservation was less than an hour old and clearly the hotel had no intention nor ability to honor my reservation. Marco fell into silence when I responded with the earnest plea, "A non-refundable reservation is understood when the reservation is able to be honored." I am so sad that my first significant family vacation was so quickly met with Marco and his robbery. As it stands, I am out almost $500 because The "Inn At the Spanish Steps" has an inferior booking website and a disagreeable Marco. I implore would be guests to 'step' lightly or risk losing hundreds of dollars in less than an hour for literally *nothing*. Oh - in fairness - I should share this snippet from the hotels emails, "I suggest you to book another [second] room and we will do our best to assign rooms as near as possible." Thanks for the offer, but . . . um. . . no. If I am going to spend $1000, I am not going to 'hope' my 9 and 10 year old daughters are 'near as possible' to me.
