Hey Singapore, Central Perk will be there for you (when the rain starts to pour)

With character-themed cafés popping up everywhere, it’s only about time that TV series get their coffee-and-cake equivalents. And what better place to start with than FRIENDS. The ’90s sitcom is coming to town in the form of the Central Perk café – you know, the one Ross, Rachel, Joey, Chandler, Phoebe and Monica used to frequent.

Singaporean Jit Min is the mega FRIENDS fan who’s recreating the iconic café, so you and your squad can hang out on, hopefully, that coveted couch. And he’s set up an Indiegogo campaign to help realise his dream – if you’re as big a fanatic as he is, show your support by contributing to the project. It starts at about $9.50 (you get a cuppa in return) all the way up to $10,000 (that grants you a lifetime membership, free coffee for life, merchandise and other perks). For now, the café is tentatively set to open in March 2017, ‘ideally in the heart of Orchard’, Jit Min writes on the project’s Facebook page.

Jit Min’s vision is true to the Central Perk we all know and love, with red brick walls, mustard-coloured couches, a wooden bar top and that unmissable logo on the glass windows. Currently, he has raised about $4,200 of the $51,500 he needs. But Jit Min is dedicated to launching this café, he says. So when it does finally open, we certainly hope that this Central Perk café comes complete with a grumpy, silver-haired barista named Gunther and a singer performing an acoustic rendition of ‘Smelly Cat’.
