Is it real life, is it just fantasy? Yup, it's fantasy all right. One hundred percent. While serious dining and wining may be for some people, there's no harm in indulging in the cheesy and fantasy worlds of these cafes, no matter how big a foodie you are. From the magical world of Harry Potter to the extremely pink-hued universe of My Melody, here's where to go for all things themed.

Hello Kitty Orchid Garden

Update: After two years in operation, Singapore’s first themed café starring the iconic feline, and the world’s first 24 hour Hello Kitty café is bidding fans a heartfelt farewell. Don't cry just yet, farewell tea parties will be held on December 8, 9, 15 and 16 before the cafe closes for good on February 8 2019. 

The character Hello Kitty, with an 'orchid garden' twist: she ties an extra bow on her head and wears a purple dress to better reflect our national flower.

The decor Kitty White's presence in the café is subtle but everywhere. There are only two statues for taking selfies with the cat but you'll see motifs of Kitty on the trellises and embellished on seats. Although the limited edition Hello Kitty plushies have already been sold out, there's still other exclusive-to-Singapore merchandise available. 

Dish to try Kitty's silhouette stamped on a cheese-slathered waffle, served with scrambled eggs, smoked duck and mushrooms on the Big Breakfast Surprise ($18.50).

My Melody Cafe

The character Best friend of Hello Kitty, a pink enthusiast, and uh, a rabbit – say hello to My Melody. 

The decor Look The theme here is 'Strawberry Paradise' and they sure did their best to stick to it. Almost everything here is pink. There are strawberries hanging on the walls, pink chairs, pink cutlery and even pink rice and pink curry. 

Dish to try You'll be impressed with the food styling the most – it's the masterpiece of bento artist Shirley Wong of food blog Little Miss Bento. Princess Bunny (S$18.90), is a dusty pink Japanese curry with rice and crispy chicken where beetroot is used to colour the rice a bright pink colour. Try out pink Hollandaise sauce on poached eggs with smoked salmon and ham in Little Pink Riding Hood ($23.90).

The characters Your favourite Friends from that old brown leather couch, Monica, Rachel, Joey, Chandler, Phoebe and Ross. 

The decor The cafe houses multiple sets modelled after the sitcom, the main one being Central Perk, the cosy coffee shop with a plush couch where all characters had spent so much time on. Iconic furniture from the show, such as the Pacman machine, Monica's kitchen and Joey's handcrafted cabinet, will be on display in the 3,300-square-foot space

Dishes to try 
The café will serve dishes inspired by the show – think cheesecake from Mama's Little Bakery ($16), which fans will recognise as the cheesecake so good Rachel and Chandler ate it off the floor. There'll also be the Joey Special ($28), a meal made of two pizzas and the Ross-Ti with sour cream, bacon and scallion ($14).

The character Unofficially, Harry Potter and the whole fantastical universe. 

The decor Look Look at the wood-panelling on walls, the exposed brick, a similar chandelier to the one in The Great Hall and Harry Potter paraphernalia all around. Close enough.

Dish to try Hungry fiends should order Hagrid's English Afternoon Tea ($55 for two) which features Rasp-BerryPotter & Mango-Nagall mousse and potato slyther-in bacon with cheddar. Pick your poison from the menu of drinks like the fiery Mr Lich's Flaming Brew ($15) or the Amnesia Blend ($12) which is rum, sprite, mint leaves and lime.

Mr. Men & Little Miss Cafe Singapore

The characters Mr Messy, Mr Bump, Mr Happy, Miss Tiny, Miss Princess and more from the colourful world Roger Hargreaves created.

The decor If you need a reminder on who the characters are, just look at the walls of the place. There's one of the whole crew on an MRT train, at the Singapore Flyer, in a trishaw around the Marina Bay Sands and the Esplanade. If you look at your plate, the food is also styled and shaped like the characters, thanks to the well-known food stylist Shirley Wong (Little Miss Bento). 

Dishes to try 
The massive plate of Mr Bump Knock-out Nasi Lemak ($23.90) may be a little on the steep side but you also get an array of sides like fried chicken, tempura sambal prawns and a sous vide egg. 

Gudetama Café

The character Gudetama, your favourite lazy egg.

The decor Yellow is the main colour at this café, which is decked out with egg-shaped chairs and tables. On the walls are comedic framed photographs of Gudetama as well as a series of four portraits of the character in different poses. Look up, and you’ll see waffle pieces hanging from the ceiling.

Dish to try 'I'm Cold' smoked salmon eggs Benedict ($26.90) that comes stamped with the adorable character's signature face. The café teamed up with local bento artist and blogger Little Miss Bento to co-create the menu and style the dishes, while the food is a joint effort between Joe & Dough and The Soup Spoon.

DC Comics Super Heroes Café

The characters Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and their butt-kicking DC friends.

The decor The place is decked out with life-sized Batman and Superman figures while the food bears the iconic superhero colours or symbols. Posters of the heroes drape over the whole space, which also houses a merch section.

Dishes to try
In the battle between Batman and Superman, choose between the Dark Night ($25.90) wagyu beef burger with red onions, portobello mushrooms and a cheddar cheese Bat-Signal on charcoal bun, or the Smallville Original ($22.90) chicken sandwich with grilled pineapples, a fried egg, tomatoes and a cheddar cheese Man of Steel symbol on buttermilk buns. 

POMPOMPURIN Café

The character POMPOMPURIN, a pudgy golden retriever with an iconic brown beret. Interestingly, the yellow puppy was voted by fans as the top Sanrio character, well above Hello Kitty.

The decor If you're not a fan of POMPOMPURIN, prepare to become one. The dog's visage is plastered everywhere, from the topiary at the storefront to the light fixtures to a massive sculpture that dominates the café. Oh, and he's also on every single dish. 

Dish to try Taco Rice in a Cup of Friendship ($20). A rice-moulded POMPOMPURIN sits atop a bed of sour cream, tomatoes, meat and veggies, served with a side of tacos. Bonus points if you spot the pooch's best friend Muffin the hamster. (Don't worry, it's not an actual rodent.)

Hungry Heroes

The characters Marvel and DC superheroes such as Thor, Iron Man, The Flash and Superman.

The decor Hungry Heroes has got the themed restaurant decor down pat in this two-storey shophouse with glass showcases of figurines, framed images of the characters and busts of Iron Man lining the walls. The food's not exactly inspired by the comic characters, but that's a small blip in your immersion of the space. 

Dish to try Nice to Meat You ($62) platter of pork ribs, sirloin, chicken leg and pulled pork.

Charlie Brown Café

The character Charlie Brown and his friends like Snoopy, Woodstock and Lucy, to name a few.

The decor Since moving to its new location at Cathay Cineleisure, Charlie Brown café has lost its cosy, semi-outdoor atmosphere, and Peanuts characters no longer adorn the lights and tables. Instead, expect a bright, window-facing café wallpapered with images of Snoopy and friends.

Dishes to try Desserts include crêpes ($9.80) – Peanuts characters are dusted on with icing sugar – with a side of ice cream (additional $3) and Snoopy's lava cake ($8.80) that comes in chocolate and matcha flavours.
