What is it they say—fifth time's a charm?

The 2017 James Beard Awards final nominations were announced at AOC in Los Angeles earlier today, and while Austin may have only come up with one nomination, at least it was a familiar face. Barley Swine chef Bryce Gilmore received his fifth James Beard nod, under the Best Chef: Southwest category. His competition includes Jianyun Ye (Houston’s Mala Sichuan Bistro), Steve Redzikowski (Denver’s Acorn), Steve McHugh (San Antonio’s Cured), Hugo Ortega (Houston’s Hugo’s) and Martin Rios (Santa Fe’s Restaurant Martín).

Laura Sawicki of Launderette was in the semi-finalist round for Outstanding Pastry Chef, but unfortunately didn't make it to the final nominations.

So when do we find out whether chef Gilmore has taken home a shiny medal? Winners will be announced at the 2017 James Beard Awards Gala at Lyric Opera of Chicago on May 1, in a ceremony hosted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson. We're rooting for you, chef!
