As if some of us didn't already have plans to spend the weekend in a Netflix haze, news has just arrived that your Austin Public Library card will now give you access to 30,000 movies on Kanopy, an on-demand streaming platform. Break out the popcorn.

Kanopy's catalog is comprised mostly of documentaries and classic movies, though you'll also find instructional films, business videos and TV series (no, not Friends, more like In Defense of Food). More well-known movies that Kanopy currently offers include I Am Not Your Negro, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Super Size Me

The news comes as Austin's New Central Library is gearing up for its grand opening on October 28, a celebration that will include a ribbon cutting, speeches, festivities and live music. You'll be able to sign up for a library card there—or anytime, at any of the other public libraries around town.
