Afs Presents: Tom At The Farm says
Directed by Xavier Dolan, Canada, 2015, DCP
102min, In French with English Subtitles

The young Québécois auteur Xavier Dolan, though only 26 years old, has already made himself one of the most imposing filmmakers on the international scene. A born provocateur, he settles into a somewhat traditional thriller mold in his Hitchcock-inflected TOM AT THE FARM. Dolan himself plays a young man from Montreal who travels deep into the agricultural heartland to attend the funeral of his male lover. The catch is, the deceased man’s family and friends are in denial about his sexual orientation, especially his bully of a brother, who begins to make confused emotional advances to the young man. Accompanied by a Bernard Herrmann-like score and made with classical precision, TOM AT THE FARM is a deeply unsettling and rewarding experience that rewards the viewer with new perspectives on storytelling and life.
