Help us kick off Amplify Austin's 24 hours of giving. We will be at Benji's Cantina on Thursday from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Your donation to FIT is an investment in the healthy future of 1,600 underserved school-aged children who face hunger over the weekend. The FIT - Food In Tummies program is a unique project of The Junior League of Austin (JLA) designed to provide weekend nourishment to children in economically disadvantaged situations. FIT benefits the entire student population of two schools in the Del Valle Independent School District which currently report 96% of students are considered economically disadvantaged. Every week for 34 weeks of the school year, the FIT program provides more than 1,600 students with backpacks full of healthy food along with bilingual recipe cards and nutrition tips. By feeding an entire student population that is currently experiencing food insecurity, school administrators have seen improved school attendance, improved student health, and other benefits.
