Free Workshop by Mike Walker
Presented by the Austin 48 Hour Film Project

Fascinated with storytelling, Mike Walker journeyed from writing short stories about his grandparents' lives in a small town in Limestone County, Texas to Super 8 shorts, as a child. Later, acting in high school plays and majoring in RTF, Mike continued to read and collect screenwriting books from the story structure gurus of Syd Field, Michael Hauge, and Christopher Vogler, while writing spec scripts for features, animation & sitcoms.

An entrepreneur at heart, he opted to start a video store out of college, later choosing to produce more than thirty educational video titles for the Spanish teacher's market, never regretting the decision to forego Hollywood and the corporate motion picture career he once envisioned at Walt Disney Studios. Traveling the indie route, a small publishing company emerged, along with a business model that proved to be profitable series after series.

Mike actively promotes the revolution of digital distribution, crowdfunding, the JOBS Act and story/project development for indies and their investors. The legacy gatekeepers of conglomerate studio/distributors, record labels and publishing houses no longer rule. Independent filmmakers, like musicians and authors, are now empowered as entrepreneurs who control their projects and careers in partnership with the crowd. Viva la Revolucion!
