It's national poetry month and the final reading of the semester. Join us at The Cactus Cafe for a line-up featuring Taisia Kitaiskaia, Jenn Shapland, Gillian Barlow Graham, Sagnik Datta, Lara Prescott, & Chad Bennett.

Taisia Kitaiskaia has poems in journals such as Fence, Pleiades, Guernica, jubilat, and Gulf Coast. She was a finalist for Cleveland State University Poetry Center’s First Book Prize. Recipient of a Michener Center for Writers fellowship, she is the current managing editor of Bat City Review. You can find links to her work online at

Sagnik Datta is a graduate of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, and is currently a fiction candidate in New Writers Project at UT Austin.

Jenn Shapland is a nonfiction writer. Her essays appear in Tin House, The Lifted Brow, Electric Literature, and elsewhere. She’s about to defend her dissertation for UT English and is currently writing a book called The Autobiography of Carson McCullers.

Gillian Barlow Graham is from Portland, Oregon. She is a fiction writer and MFA candidate at the UT Austin New Writers Project.

Lara Prescott is a first-year fiction fellow at the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas. Her fiction has been featured or is forthcoming in The Hudson Review, The Southern Review, Tin House Flash Fridays, Day One, and others. More from Lara at

Chad Bennett is Assistant Professor of English at the University of Texas at Austin. His poems have appeared in Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, Fence,Jubilat, Poetry Daily, The Volta, and elsewhere.
