The event creator says
Cars can be a bummer. So let’s ride bikes instead! Blythe Carter from the City of Austin’s Active Transportation Department will help facilitate this ride around North Central Austin to help you discover how bicycles, buses, and your own two feet can become your preferred modes of transportation. Several other Active Transportation folks will be present to answer any of your transportation queries. They might even have some freebies (i.e., maps) to hand out. Of course, all this transportation business will only complement the usual bipedaled feminine fellowship.

Meet at Dolce Vita for a gelato pre-game at 8:00pm. Wheels down 8:20. This beginner-friendly route will explore Hyde Park, Allandale, Rosedale, and North Loop, at a social pace. We’ll end at The Tigress (100 W. North Loop Blvd.) for some social time.

About us: Bikin' Betties is a weekly bike ride for female, female-identifying, and gender-nonconforming individuals. It's a great way to meet like-minded chicas, get a bit of a workout, learn convenient and safe bike routes around the city, and become more skilled and confident on your bike. (Boys, you know we love you, but every now and then we need our lady-time. Thanks for respecting us and letting us do this ride without you ♥)

These are "no-drop" rides, meaning no one gets left behind. Ever. Some weeks we'll ride more miles than others, and the routes will vary in intensity – some being easy, hill-less cruises and others being longer, more challenging rides.

If you like riding bikes (or wanna start), join the Bikin' Betties facebook group to stay in the loop with events and discussions: www.fb.com/groups/bikinbetties.

Social Cycling Austin rides AS traffic and NOT AGAINST it. We stop at red lights, yield the right of way and let cars pass as best we can. We don't block intersections. We are cool to both our fellow riders and the other traffic on the road. If you need to brush up on the rules, click here: www.bicycleaustin.info/laws/austin.html.

What you need: Working front and rear lights, spare tubes so you're not stranded with a flat, a lock, your ID, cash to tip your lovely servers/bartenders, and it's always a good idea to wear a helmet.

REMINDER: The goal has always been to create a safe environment for all riders, but we cannot control every rider's behavior, nor do we desire to. We promote personal responsibility, and it is each rider's responsibility to take care of themselves, and if they choose to ride with us, then they accept those risks inherent in riding a bicycle with a large group of other people riding bicycles.
