Studio 111 at Canopy is excited to announce an exhibition of Susannah Blanton’s beautifully executed, thought provoking, visual story paintings, and Kathi Herrin’s fluid, functional ceramics during the weekend of OPEN Canopy.
Herrin’s work will be in the studio for one weekend only.

Susannah Blanton

Susannah Blanton is an artist living and working in Austin. Growing up in Fort Worth she was influenced by the creative spirits of her parents who exposed her to all forms of art from an early age. She began painting seriously around 2004 in Los Angeles where the strong social commentary in the local artists served as the greatest influence to her work.
“The work I paint is an ongoing exploration of illustrating a story or theme with the images reflecting emotional snapshots of that story. Inspiration is frequently found in vintage advertisements and photos where the innocence of the period is juxtaposed with a new and more complicated idea. Raw and controversial topics are no stranger to my work as I present an unabashed view of subject matter many find too personal or delicate to discuss.”
Kathi Herrin

Kathi Herrin was born in Dallas TX USA 1951. She is currently living in Austin, TX. Herrin has placed her focus and studies year round on ceramics since taking her first course in 2012 after spending prior years studying and working in various 2d mediums: painting, photography, drawing and mixed media and some assemblage. Her ceramics range from functional ware, tea pots, bowls, cups to non-representational sculptures and continue to evolve and develop through advanced ceramic courses, demos and workshops.
Herrin acquired her Associates in Art at Austin Community College Austin, TX in 2013 and participated in their Study Abroad Program Art History in Italy at the Florence University of the Arts in Florence, Italy. She is currently enrolled at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX majoring in Studio Art with a specialization in ceramics. In addition to ceramic courses at Austin Community College, she has taken ceramic courses at the Dougherty Arts School and The Contemporary Austin Art School at Laguna Gloria, Austin, TX. Herrin has exhibited and sold works in multiple venues, art festivals, and galleries in the Austin and surrounding cities, Smithville, Buda, San Marcos, Georgetown, and Florence.
