Blanton Museum Of Art: Beat The Rush: Delp, Dockery, O'neill & Traeger says
The Blanton Museum's Beat the Rush presents a guided musical tour of performances by small ensembles in a sequence of galleries in the museum. From September to November the Friendly Ghost is acting as curator for Beat the Rush. Beat the Rush is part of the Blanton's Third Thursday programing, during which, museum admission is free to the public and discounted parking (with validation) in the Brazos garage!

For October's episode, four stylistically diverse musicians answer a prompt to improvise, in a line, across the thresholds of four rooms. Our intrepid players will be responding to the structure and acoustics of the Blanton Museum, meanwhile, devising methods to overcome the distance and lack of direct communication. Secret signs, obscure games, hidden cues, precise timing and just sweet luck will aide our players in their task.

Our quartet features:
Multi-instrumentalist R Lee Dockery creates a sonic space in which the listener is enveloped in a whirling blend low bass tones , lush strings and manipulated field recordings. He currently resides in Austin Tx and has released albums on Kendra Steiner Editions , Marmara Records , No Kings Records and collaborated with Derek Rogers , Smokey Emery, Lisa Cameron among other sound and visual artists.

Mickey Delp is an electrical and computer engineer by trade. His company, Delptronics, makes synthesizer modules and drum machines. As a musician, Mickey plays the same instruments that he designs. All of the instruments he uses when performing are hand-built himself. Mickey’s musical style can best be described as improvised minimalist electronica.

Sean O’Neil is an Austin based sound artist and installation designer working with found materials, field recordings, and various digital/analog components. He has had performances and presented installations at various venues and festivals including Ice Hotel Sweden, La Nau Digital Media Festival, and Re-New Festival Copenhagen.

Zac Traeger is a composer, creator and curator living in Austin, TX. His focus currently lies in the use and respect of artificial intelligence as a creative voice, director of circumstance and independent means of creation. He hopes this level of respect and interest puts him in good favor of our robot overlords during the coming singularity.
