In anticipation of Earth Month this April, Aveda Institute Austin is hosting an eco-fashion show and benefit event, to raise money for clean water efforts. All proceeds from the show will go to the Gulf Restoration Network (GRN) to solve water pollution problems in Gulf Coast communities and the Global Greengrants Fund.
The Catwalk for Water will showcase designs from students, local designers and boutiques for an evening’s catwalk benefit.
During the month of April Aveda’s Earth Month campaign will seek to raise $4 million for awareness and protection of clean water. Since 1999, Aveda’s global network of salons, spas, Institutes and retail stores has raised more than $18 million for organizations that directly affect environmental change and, over the past four years, $12 million for water-related causes alone over the past four years.
About Gulf Restoration Network
The Gulf Restoration Network works to protect and restore waters throughout the Gulf of Mexico that are critical to recreation, fisheries, wildlife habitat, and drinking water. Despite much progress made under the Clean Water Act, many waters flowing into our Gulf remain polluted with fertilizers, pesticides, sewage, and other contaminants. Every summer, nitrogen pollution from the Mississippi River forms a “dead zone,” an area where aquatic life cannot survive, off the coast of Louisiana and Texas that is roughly the size of the state of Massachusetts.

About Global Greengrants Fund
Global Greengrants Fund creates opportunities by making small grants to grassroots groups working for social and environmental justice. Each grant is a chance to make a difference. Since 1993, Global Greengrants has made nearly 6,000 grants to grassroots groups on the front lines of environmental justice.
