IT'S HAPPENING!!!! A weekly class/jam for those interested in learning and practicing Contact Improvisation Dance. The intention... To offer those who are new to the practice, as well as those who have been practicing for years (and anywhere in between!) a place to connect with some amazing people, learn some new movement skills, share what you know, and deepen your sense of this amazing movement practice. Each class/jam will have three elements.... (1) a slightly guided warm up and some group exercises/scores, to help everyone "arrive" in their bodies, in the space, and prepared for dancing and improvisation, (2) open jamming (3) bodywork. I have found that when these three elements are included, there is a stronger sense of connection, communication, and overall sense of well being. And yes... It's FUN!!! When.... Tuesday evenings... For many, Contact Improvisation is a way to connect with others physically and emotionally, and (mostly) non-verbally! It's a dance practice in which two (or more) people share a moving point of connection, which often leads to sharing a common center of gravity, moving in and out of the ground, up and around in air, feeling limitless in space and time, with unlimited possibilities for FUN!!! Think… Romper Room for the Soul! And SO MUCH MORE!! Here are a few benefits of Contact Improvisation... * Experience a sense of ease and flow in the way you connect with your body and move through space. * Learn simple and effective skills that will allow you to move smoothly and confidently in and out of physical contact with others, whatever that may look like. * Develop an improvisational mind, allowing you to make spontaneous creative choices, enhancing your experience * Feel more empowered in yourself as a person and a dancer. * Create long lasting connections with amazing people!!! //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// About Laurie Ellington... Laurie has been living and breathing Contact Improvisation Dance for nearly 20 years. She has learned from the best of the best... Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith, Ray Chung, Alito Alessi, and Karen Nelson to name a few. She has studied, taught and performed in the US and Abroad. Her teaching is unique in that she consistently reveals and shares the multitude of choices that are possible in any given moment in the dance, and how those choices affect ourselves, each other, and every dance we have. As she says.... "Our body is our greatest tool for expressing the richness of our lives. Inner and outer sensations drive our every move. Often we see something and try to make sense of it from the outside in. What if we could make sense of it from the inside out?" Laurie's classes offer an empowering opportunity to learn about your body and the space around you, where every move, every sensation, every impulse is embraced and nourished. Dancing with Laurie, you will engage in movement scores/activities that will ease your mind, energize your body, and awaken your ability to express yourself and engage with others, feeling deeply connected and curiously playful!
