8pm Sunday, November 22nd – Drone Orchestra
at Salvage Vanguard Theater 2803 Manor Rd. Austin, TX 78722
Admission $5-$15 sliding scale. Please arrive at 7:45pm for seating.

8pm Mongoose. Described by the Austin American Statesman as “strangely compelling,” Mongoose is a collective of jazz/experimental/dance/theater/comedy/performance-art improvisors based in Austin, Texas. Using John Zorn’s Cobra rule system, these differing strands are woven into an audio/visual tapestry that is one of a kind.

9pm – Inspired by the oddly comforting sounds of The Hayward Tuning Vine the mysterious, legendary String Bassist Janie Cowan and local yocal Pedalsteel player Bob Hoffnar will be playing drone based compositions and improvisations. Bob Hoffnar curates the Liminal Sound Series as well as running his own band “the Mood Illusion” here in Austin where he lives with two dogs and a wife. Little is known about the legendary Ms. Cowan. It is said that she drank from the forbidden cup of low frequency wisdom as a feral child which was given to her by the polar bear king after she rescued him from a collapsing glacier…Maybe that explains her uncanny abilities.

9:45pm – Drone Orchestra. Players layers will perform based on a graphic score written by Greg Cooksey. Lisa Mims, conductor
Greg Cooksey, composer. Participants: Kevin Foltinek, Alex Keller, Jakob Marsala, Christopher Petkus, Sarah Ann Phillips,
Leonard Smith
