Gender and Sexuality Center at the University of Texas Austin says
BIKING 4 THOUSAND MILES TO TALK PERIOD

-USA, Mar 2015- On March 2, 6 women from 3 nations begin biking from CA to Boston for The Society for Menstrual Cycle Research's 2015 national conference, held three months later at Suffolk University. Sustainable Cycles is a pun about bicycles and menstrual cycles.

Over her lifetime, a woman will spend over $2,000 and create over 260 pounds of trash by using disposable menstrual products. She will experience shame and embarrassment about her cycle, especially as a young woman. Sustainable Cycles works to change this commonplace reality.

Along the route, the cyclists will hold Period-Positive Workshops: safe spaces to have open and honest period talk with others in the community. They will show & tell (& give away) the alternative menstrual products (reusable pads, cups, and sponges) that most have never been exposed to. They will celebrate the cycle as a means of transportation and as the phenomena essential to life itself.
