Reflections on using ‘Design Thinking’ for Social Justice

In the last decade, we have seen the application of ‘design thinking’ by non-designers such as policy makers, social entrepreneurs, and international development practitioners, as they seek new ways to solve highly complex problems. Lui’s presentation will examine the use of ‘design thinking’ to address issues of social inclusion and economic justice such as homelessness and social housing, disabilities, and low-skilled labor migration.

Dr. Robyn N. Lui is founder and principal strategist of Social Change Collective. Liu has over 20 years of international experience working on social justice issues. She has held positions as a senior government advisor, research academic, and international development consultant. Along the way, she also bootstrapped a few social enterprises. She draws inspiration from those who are unafraid to think outside traditional silos and their own operating models. Her burning question: how might we re-design economic systems for human and planetary wellbeing.

Robyn has a PhD in International Relations and Political Science from the Australian National University and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
