Greetings everyone!
This week, we will be exploring what we really learn and absorb when we watch Disney films. The images of gender, sexuality, and race in films like The Princess and the Frog or The Little Mermaid have a powerful impact on the ways we think about identity and love well into adulthood. Our discussion will center around how Disney films help perpetuate established social norms (i.e., heternormativity, mononormativity, gender roles, etc.) and how can we radically rethink the use of images and films to challenge these norms.
