Michael Garfield says
Stretch your body, mind, and soul all at once this February when Michael Garfield joins Jerry Balderas' TGIF "Bittersweet Yoga" classes with live music! Together they'll weave you into a deep but gentle flow and take you on a journey through your own undiscovered inner wilderness.

At 5:30 pm on 1/29, 2/5, 2/19, and 2/26 we're GOING THERE – bring your own mat and cash for tips, and get ready to have fun with us! (NOTE: We have to skip 12 February.)

An austin native, Jerry, a yoga innovator, is in the midst of a 13 year apprenticeship with Austin Yoga co-founder Bekir Algan, Ph.D. His teachings are influenced by studies in structural engineering, Iyengar yoga, Macrobiotics, Ayurveda, Continuum, Vedanta, Aikido, and the Sufi teachings of creating sparks in the hearts of kindred spirits. He uses classical innovative design and use of props to affectively body-sculpt students. In his studies with Bekir, he continues the journey of opening a well protected heart, internally mapping the routes of the nervous system, honing in on subtle body sensations and maintaing a state of active meditation. Jerry's main studies have been supported by the phenomenal works of great yogis such as Patanjali, Svatmarama, Krisnamacharya, Iyengar, Jois, Scaravelli, Desikachar, Ghand, as well as workshops with senior iyengar yoga teachers Gabriella Giubilaro, Manuso Manos, Ramanand Patel, and Patricia Walden. Jerry gives thanks to all of his teachers along the way for inspiring and helping him get to where he is today.

Michael Garfield writes music for the head and heart – intelligent, emotional performances that captivate attentive audiences and reward repeated listening. Alternately tender and apocalyptic, simultaneously chill and energetic, his intensely technical yet vulnerable music reimagines folk and psychedelic rock alike, updating "solo artist with guitar" to suit an age of existential wonder, cybernetic systems, and emerging planetary consciousness.
