SHIELD THE PEOPLE is a community movement of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in South Dakota organized to protect the rights of the people and the land for future generations; committed to stopping the Keystone XL Pipeline and other issues devastating our environment and affecting the global community.
CAN A TIPI STOP A PIPELINE?
YES.
In direct action against the Pipeline snaking its way through treaty land, Shield The People constructed the Spiritual Camp (Sicangu Wicoti Iyuksa) in March 2014. This encampment of tipis stands as a unified symbol of resistance along the right-of-way of the proposed pipeline. A small, but mighty, crew of men and women occupy the camp 24/7, tending to the fire that keeps the camp going.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
STAND WITH SHIELD THE PEOPLE by providing support for the camp and raising funds to secure a fierce legal team with expertise in land, water and treaty rights.
TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW. HOLD THE LINE!!!
Just last month, January 29th, 2015, the U.S. Senate passed a bill that would bypass President Barack Obama and approve the Keystone XL pipeline. Our only hope next is for Obama to veto. It is imperative that we hold the line in Congress to ensure that the president's veto cannot be overridden. Big Oil may be able to buy members of Congress, but we need to let them know they can't buy KXL's approval.
Thank you for your time and consideration in taking action at this pivotal moment in the fight against this disastrous pipeline.
