Time Out says

The second monthly celebration of experimental music marrying acoustic instruments and looping virtuosity... New special guests will join us every month as we explore the frontiers of collaborative freestyle composition in South Austin's finest listening room! First Thursdays: 5 March, 2 April All Ages :: 10pm - 12am :: $5 Info on the contributing musicians (more TBA): >>> Michael Garfield <<< Between the personal warmth of folk tradition and the whirling ecstatics of festival culture, Michael Garfield is making music for which new words must be invented – a dazzling, charismatic marriage of vocally athletic improv, avant-fingerstyle technique, and sixty-pound of filters, wahs, delays, and multi-channel loopers. Singing and playing while twisting knobs and DJ'ing live samples with his toes, Michael's evocative and mind-expanding shows are an embodiment in music of his training in biology and day gig writing on the evolutionary dance of humans and machines – acoustic electronic tunes that liberating the organic into the digital, and the idioms of Americana into a new species of transcendental trance. "Michael has mastered a method of looping and playing that is on a pedestal all on its own. Ultimately [his work] is an exploration into what you perceive music, the guitar, and technology can do…then completely altering it." - Mixolydian "It takes creativity to make the next step in a newer, more shocking direction, but it takes a visionary to go beyond the breaking point and meet music on the other end of the spectrum. That’s what Michael Garfield does." - TheUntz >>> Jason Traweek aka Spirit Lab <<< Spirit Lab is an evolving new music project for dance, dance performance accompaniment, meditation rhythms and more. While I (percussionist/multi-instrumentalist Jason Traweek) am leading the charge, the project is ultimately not intended to be all about me. It’s also about the fellow musicians I journey with along the way, and the bodies and spirits that we move with our sounds. Further information, sounds samples and performance dates will be posted here as the project develops. If you are interested in world percussion based rhythm soundscapes for your gatherings or dance performance, or if you are interested in collaborative work with the project, please contact me for more information. >>> Caleb H Polashek <<< Caleb Hans Polashek is an Austin-based violinist performing regularly with the Austin Symphony Orchestra. His versatile playing has led to collaborations with numerous groups both classical and otherwise. When not serving as the youngest tenured member of the ASO, Caleb enjoys playing with a wide range of musical acts on stages all around Austin and beyond. Classically trained with the Suzuki Method from the age of four and a half, Caleb's ear training has served him well as he built on his experiences as an orchestral, chamber, and solo musician. While attending The Butler School of Music at UT Austin he frequently served as concertmaster of the University of Texas Symphony Orchestra, a post he secured through audition. Employing a number of advanced techniques, Caleb uses the piece to push his artistry both technically and musically. A fan of all types of music, he has finished a number of electronic tracks that mix computerized tones and acoustic violin. More tunes are in the pipeline, and Caleb looks forward to releasing these and other recordings periodically through the year.
