MakerSquare is hosting an action-packed event in the style of the Amazing Race to help you learn JavaScript!

By participating in this race, you'll learn the fundamental concepts of JavaScript, while also having a great time with new friends. In order to complete the build out of a functioning site, you will need to uncover clues that you will find in certain locations in the Capital Factory/MakerSquare space. As you discover these locations, you will unearth more and more knowledge that will advance you on your way to victory. The top three teams will win awesome prizes to enhance their coding lives. All teams will walk away with the tools needed to build their own website, along with resources to help learn code in the future. You are invited to bring a partner to build your team or you can pair up with a new friend at the event!


10:30 - 11:00 --> Grab some breakfast tacos and coffee then sit down for an introductory lecture to JavaScript.
11:00 - 12:00 --> Start racing away
11:00 - 11:15 --> Grab snacks/drinks/redbull to make sure you don't get too tired from the race
11:15 - 11:30 --> Optional Q/A session for teams that need a power up
11:30 - 12:45 --> Keep racing and go fast to beat the competition
12:45 - 1:00 --> Solution lecture to give away all the JavaScript secrets
1:00 - 1:30 --> Drinks and networking. This is also your chance to ask any questions of former students in a casual environment

What you will learn:

The main purpose of this course is to build JavaScript fundamentals. You will have the tools needed in order to tackle online tutorials after this brief primer. You will also dabble in HTML and CSS. You will be exposed to all pieces of building a website.

Why you should attend:
This is a great way to meet other aspiring programmers in the Austin community. You will also learn a bunch about JavaScript in a style that will be interesting and enjoyable. This type of event leaves students with a stronger grasps of the fundamental concepts of JavaScript.
