Out of Bounds Comedy Festival says
Lack of emotional commitment is a scene killer. An improviser can be technically proficient, but if there’s no heart, and no honest reaction, there isn’t much point. In Making it Matter, we’ll focus on starting scenes from a real, grounded place and then making things matter by being honestly affected by and reacting truthfully to your scene partner’s offers. You’ll also be encouraged to demonstrate awareness of the big picture – of your scene partner’s gifts, of your environment and reading the tone of the scene so that nothing is ignored, and give you the tools you need to push you to a new emotional range to make your scene work fluid and more like a slice of life.

Julie Brister began studying improv with the Upright Citizens Brigade in 1997 and her first teachers were Ian Roberts, Amy Poehler, Matt Besser and Matt Walsh. She’s been teaching at UCB in both NYC and LA for almost 15 years. She’s appeared in many TV shows and movies including Review, Playing House, Marry Me, Happy Endings, Onion News Network, Parks and Rec, Conan and can be seen in the upcoming zombie rom com, Night of the Living Deb. At UCB-LA she performs with Gloria.

Join us downstairs in the Hideout Theatre. Max 14 spaces. $45.
