Robots in Rowboats "Tales of Heartbreak and Hope"
New work by Lauren Briere

With her trusty robots in tow, artist Lauren Briere's latest chapter "Tales of Heartbreak and Hope" explores the innocence of first experiences and the sweet and sad emotional response we have when we reflect on them. By lensing these familiar moments though the eyes of wonderstruck, charming machines, she hopes to allow her fellow humans to appreciate a feeling that's not always easy to pinpoint. Saudade, a beautiful Portuguese word that lacks an English equivalent, comes closest: it describes a deep emotional state of nostalgia and a profound longing for "the little things."

Lauren Briere is an Austin-based artist whose robots spend most of their time in rowboats. She's beyond excited to share their latest adventure with the Austin Art Garage.
