The Austin Human Rights Commission will continue working with the APD on policies and practices regarding racial profiling, use of force and cultural competency. Based on the powerful public testimony at the last meeting, the Commission has added a new agenda items for Monday on Undoing Racism Trainings for the City of Austin staff and leadership. We hope you can come and speak out! Undoing Racism Austin (URA) has a goal of making the City of Austin a national leader in achieving racial equity across systems. This will require a high level of engagement and attention that will only come when the people of this city make it impossible to ignore. This is great opportunity to come together again, to share how the Undoing Racism trainings, with the Peoples Institute for Survival and Beyond, are affecting your life, your organization and or your community work. IMPORTANT: If you have a testimony SPECIFICALLY ABOUT HOW THE URA TRAINING has impacted your life, your work or your organization, PLEASE come and sign up to speak! Let the commission know why you want the city to adopt these trainings. If you have not taken the training, please show up and support our effort! We are asking as many people as possible to show up and speak out about the importance of confronting and undoing racism in our community with. Whether it is manifesting in police practices, gentrification or lack of public transportation, we want to keep making racism visible and keep on track to have the City sponsor a series of trainings to improve the Austin community. There is free parking available in the City Hall garage. Get your parking ticket validated at the Commission meeting. URA will not be able to provide food for this meeting – sorry! We hope that does not deter you from coming and speaking out about the need for Undoing Racism training for the City of Austin! With respect, The URA Collective
