Time Out says
Swings Asunder is Sky Candy's newest aerial theatre production opening at the Rollins Theater in July 2015. Using elements of modern dance, aerial and acrobatics the show is an avant garde exploration of social rituals, the development and dissolution of gender roles and identity, and ultimately our outlook on our lives and what we are capable of.
This three weekend workshop will include learning and creating choreography and participants can expect to work with movement tools including contact improvisation, aerial arts, ground acrobatics, modern dance, theatre-based improvisation and more. The end goal of the workshop is to create a 20-30 minute presentation on January 31st for audience feedback on this new work.
People who are interested should have some movement experience and can be dancers, aerialists, acrobats, actors and others. We do not specifically require that you have circus or aerial experience to take part in the workshop.
(UPDATED!) The workshop dates are:
Saturday, January 17 3 - 6pm
Saturday, January 24 4:30 - 7:30pm
Saturday, January 31 4:30 - 7:30pm
(UPDATED!) The workshop presentation is:
Saturday, February 7 6pm - 8pm (we may have as early as a 4pm call time for a run-thru)
The first workshop is open to everyone! If you are interested in learning more about the show, working with our director Nathan Brumbaugh, checking out Sky Candy for the first time, or just seeing if they may be a good fit for you - we welcome you to join us - no further commitment required!
About the Swings Asunder Workshops
You must be able to attend all three workshops in order to participate in the workshop presentation. You cannot attend the second and third dates of the workshop if you have not attended the first. These workshops are not the audition for the show, but they are an excellent opportunity for you to get to know us and for us to get to know you!
About the Swings Asunder Auditions
You do NOT have to participate in the workshop or the workshop presentation in order to be considered for a role in the show. We will be looking to cast 4 female and 4 male performers. We will have more information on audition dates and requirements by mid-January 2015!
