On behalf of the Tejas Club it is my honor to invite you this week's Tejas Coffee featuring President Bill Powers. Please join us at 8:30PM for refreshments and good company to be followed by our speaker at 9:00PM sharp.
William Powers Jr., serves as the 28th President of The University of Texas at Austin. He took office on February 1, 2006 and will step down on June 2, 2015. Prior to taking office as President, he served on faculty and as Dean of Texas' School of Law, where he will return to faculty following his presidency.
A native of Los Angeles, Powers received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1967. Following his service in the U.S. Navy, he attended Harvard Law School, where he became managing editor of the "Harvard Law Review" and graduated magna cum laude in 1973. He taught at the University of Washington Law School before coming to The University of Texas at Austin in 1977.
In 1997, the university named him to its Academy of Distinguished Teachers. He is a University Distinguished Teaching Professor and holds the Hines H. Baker and Thelma Kelley Baker Chair in Law. In 2001, he chaired a special investigation committee of Enron Corp. The resulting report, known as the “Powers Report,” and his testimony before Congress, gained national recognition.
Tejas Coffees are the University's oldest distinguished speaker series hosted by the Club on Thursdays throughout the semester. For more information about Coffees or the Club, please visit our website at www.tejasclub.org. Should you have any additional questions feel free to contact me directly. All are welcome to attend Tejas Coffees and we look forward to seeing you this Thursday. As always, special thanks to the University Co-Op and the McCurdy Family for their continued support of Tejas Coffee.
Cheers and hook 'em,
