Texas Magpies
Magpies are not an indigenous species to the great state of Texas, but a small flock has migrated to the capitol city of Austin this year. They are a band called the Texas Magpies. The bird is known for collecting treasures…shiny things. The band, likewise, collects musical treasures from here and there. Love songs in Italian, Mexican Trio waltzes or boleros and songs by the Kinks or the Carter Family are all found on their recent eponymous CD. The band features the old world charm of Giulia Millanta on guitar, ukelele and vocals, the fireworks of David Pulkingham on guitar and vocals all held together by the rhythm machine of Michael Longoria on percussion.
