Time Out says

Kick off the week right with the first of a three-part collaboration between The House of Shakur and Queer Qumbia en Tejas as we congregate for a *SOBER* Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) exclusive social networking mixer. Channel the ancestors, access higher vibrations, align your energies as we sip and snack in the name of spiritual/mental clarity and self-care. We want to get to know and celebrate who you are, where you're coming from and why you're here. Drinks and refreshments will be provided, vegan and gluten free options will be available. _________________________________ This event is exclusive to queer and trans people of color. White allies can support this event by not being present. Not coming would be a respectful acknowledgment of the fact that QTPOC need to carve out spaces that are exclusive to us because safety and community are so difficult for us to access . This is not up for debate or discussion. If you are white and have questions about the event and why it's exclusive to QTPOC, you can direct them to Jules Minkoff at: hitea.questions@gmail.com White folks taking up space on this event page about their grievances about being excluded is disrespectful of our need to create this event in the first place. Organizers will not engage in conversations about this on the event page as it would subject the QTPOC who have RSVP'd to unnecessary emotional labor related to white supremacy. _________________________________ Accessibility info: Mexic-Arte is accessible to folks who use a wheelchair. There are no steps to enter the building or to get from gallery space to gallery space. The floor is smooth and even. There are two bathrooms that will be available to guests, one is accessible to folks who use a wheelchair, the other is not. Bathroom info: There are two single stall, non-gendered bathrooms. One is accessible to folks who use a wheelchair. Parking/transportation information: Unfortunately, there is no designated parking or parking garage for Mexic-Arte. There is street parking is available along 5th St., Congress Ave and surrounding blocks that is free after 6pm. Because street parking can be difficult to find, especially during SX, there are paid garages and parking lots in the area. There are also several bus lines that run very close to Mexic-Arte. Bus fares are $1.25/one way. This is a collaborative even between two Austin-based qtpoc art collectives The House of Shakur and Queer Qumbia en Tejas. This creative relationship was created out of a desire to honor and acknowledge the work both groups have accomplished individually, and to explore the artistic possibilities of collective conspiracy. Noting this kind of collaboration between Black and Brown queer collectives is important because it is a rare coalition that is often not well documented and in fact intentionally erased from our histories. #hitea #houseofshakur #qqet #codeswitch #qtxpoc
