Check it out! Tomorrow, Thursday March 5, the Austin Swing Syndicate will be having a Jack and Jill dance contest! It will be a great way for dancers to practice competing for Lindyfest, which is next weekend! What is a Jack and Jill contest? It's when leads and follows compete as individuals and get paired throughout the contest with random partners. It allows competitors to show off their versatility to dancing with different people. There will be two rounds: prelims and finals. There will also be an opportunity for competitors to get feedback from the judges. And lastly, there will be prizes for the winners! Here are the details: - FREE TO ENTER as long as you are attending the dance - Contest is open to EVERYONE at the dance (except dance teacher/teacher level dancers), with a MINIMUM competency level of knowing lindy hop (swingout, circles, etc.) (If you teach Lindy Hop, or compete nationally you may not enter) - Prelims will occur during the DJ switch at 10pm - Finals will occur during the DJ switch at 11pm - Judges will be teachers/representatives from Four on the Floor, The Lindy Project, and BalAustin - Feedback from judges for competitors available in art gallery after finals are done - Contest will have as short of an interruption to the flow of the evening as possible Schedule: - 9:00pm to 10:00pm - Sign up for the Jack & Jill - 10:00pm - Prelims - 11:00pm - Finals - 11:15pm to 11:30pm - Feedback Session in Art Gallery
