FOUND STORYTELLING WORKSHOP + SCREENING WITH MICAH MAGEE
6:30-8PM THURSDAY MARCH 12, 2015
What are our values as writers and independent filmmakers? How can we best use our limited resources to tell global stories? In this 90 minute workshop, participants explore the narrative material of self and environment through place, memory and improvisation - using both fiction and documentary as storytelling material to create subjective universes Hollywood would never dream of building.
Writer/director Micah Magee will show a selection of her own short films and explore ways of writing in a group, using archetype and macro-dramaturgical analysis of time. Seeds of initial writing exercises will be further developed through partner writing, acting exercises and improvisation.
Micah Magee is an award-winning writer and filmmaker. Her first feature, PETTING ZOO, shot in San Antonio, Texas, premieres this year at SXSW. In the past, Micah has worked as co-director of Cinematexas Film Festival, pirate radio programmer and (currently) full-time mom. She holds two undergraduate degrees from UT Austin (B.A. Plan II Liberal Arts/B.S. Film Production) and attended graduate school at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. She has taught at the German Film and Television Academy, Swedish Art Academy in Umea, Istanbul Film Academy and Harvard's Summer Film Program in Berlin. Micah's films have taken her all over the world. She is overjoyed that they are now taking her back to Texas for SXSW 2015!
ARRIVE EARLY! WE'LL OPEN OUR DOORS AT 6 P.M.
