This Thursday at 9am the Texas Senate will be have a public hearing on SB11, Campus Carry and Open Carry.
On January 26th, SB 11 was filed in the Texas Senate, which would allow any properly licensed Texan to carry their handgun concealed onto a college campus. UT's new chancellor, Admiral William H. McRaven, has come out publicly opposed to this legislation.
Fellow Longhorns, join us in attending the hearing and testifying against these proposals.
We'll be meeting at Littlefield Fountain at 8:30am, or you can meet us at the Capitol in room E1.016. WEAR BURNT ORANGE TO REPRESENT OUR CAMPUS.
---------------WHEN YOU GET TO THE CAPITOL---------------
1) If you only have a few minutes, register your testimony electronically using the kiosks provided. You'll provide your name & address and whatever you'd like to say in opposition to campus carry. (info here: https://www.mytxlegis.legis.state.tx.us/hwrspublic/about.aspx)
2) Attend the State Affairs committee hearing in hearing room E1.106, starting at 9am. This is where you can provide a 2-minute testimony orally, though it will probably require an extended wait. Possibly hours. If you can't stay all day:
3) Register your testimony and speak to the Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America members who can direct you to your state representative and senators' offices, where you can sign in, write down that you came to oppose campus carry, and tell the staffer on duty why you came.
