Utility Musik: West Austin Studio Tour says
Sunday, May 17, from 4-5pm, join us for Utility Musik, a responsive sound installation by Zac Traeger and a Select Event in partnership with Big Medium and the West Austin Studio Tour. Complimentary German beverages will be served.

Sound installation by Zac Traeger in conjunction with Between Here and There: works by Olivia Martin Moore. Expanding on a sound piece generated using visual information from Martin Moore’s sculptures and data from the U-Bahn network, Traeger will create a sonic environment in response to the exhibition. Traeger is the director of the Museum of Human Achievement in East Austin.

The Color Study #1 re(sounding) sound component is generated purely from data extracted from one of the re(sounding) pieces. The piece is scanned at a rate of 3 and 1/3 rotations per minute in a spiral patten. Data is extracted using programs built for the process with help from Robby Kraft. Sources of data are hue, saturation and lightness information, as well as average color, black and white levels. The data is then fed through various synthesis techniques to generate a 90 minute composition. The piece explores the correlation of sound, color, motion, time and place.
