Nothing says comfort food quite like a big, juicy burger – Australia’s burger scene is seriously stacked (pun fully intended). Whether you’re after a greasy hangover hero with spicy relish, a gourmet spin on the classic beef burger, or a double-patty delight with extra pickles, we’ve got the goods. In fact, Australian burgers shine on the national stage – we’re officially home to three of the best on the planet.
So, who crowns the world’s best burgers? Each year, a panel of experts from the internationally renowned World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants come together to rank the World’s 25 Best Burgers. In 2025, one legendary Sydney spot cracked the top ten, while last year’s only Aussie entry and a recently opened Melbourne joint also cracked the list.

The title of Australia’s best burger for 2025 – and the world's tenth best – goes to celebrated chef Neil Perry’s beloved American cheeseburger from Next Door in Double Bay, Sydney. When Time Out’s Sydney Editor, Avril Treasure, asked Perry what makes it one of the world's best, he said it’s all about using the best ingredients.
“For the cheeseburger at Next Door, we take CopperTree Farms’ beef – a mix of brisket and chuck – grind it daily and hand-form the perfect 160-gram patty, cook it to medium, and serve it with melted American cheese, rose mayo (spiked with umami and tomato sauce), onion and pickles in a milk bun, with the option to add fresh chilli and bacon,” Perry says.

Following in 12th place was The Gidley – a former winner of Australia’s best burger – with its self-titled stack. This old-world steak restaurant serves a toasted milk bun loaded with a double beef patty, melted American cheese, house pickles and a tangy sauce that keeps fans (like us) coming back for more.
While Next Door and The Gidley are well-renowned spots, an unassuming shopfront in Melbourne (open only since July) claimed 14th spot on the global list. That honour goes to Charrd, a Brunswick East burger joint by Yakamoz, cooking up just two burgers: the classic cheeseburger (with onions and pickles) and the Charrd signature (with added truffle aioli, chilli jam and caramelised onions). Both can be ordered with a single or double patty, depending on how hungry you are.

Time Out’s Melbourne Editor, Leah Glynn, lined up for 70 minutes to try the signature Charrd burger. She said, “The beauty of this burger is in its simplicity. The quality patties are made from a special blend of cuts from Madina Halal Butchers on nearby Sydney Road, and there's a delicious smokiness to the flavour. The pickles and onion add just the right amount of sharp zest, while the sauce combo balances it all out.”
