Pinterest searches for Oregon increased 42 per cent year-on-year, and the pictures prove why

Before Instagram or TikTok, there was Pinterest. Australians have long turned to this visual discovery platform not just for inspiration, but to actively manifest their best lives. Travel is front and centre on Aussie vision boards in 2026, with almost a third using Pinterest to map out everything from dream stays to bucket-list destinations. So, where exactly are Aussies pinning their travel dreams?
Based on Australian Pinterest searches in the last 365 days, the top trending destination is Oregon in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Nicknamed the Beaver State, this highly pinnable destination saw a 42 per cent increase in searches compared with the previous year.
With dramatic landscapes, scenic road trips, lush forests and stunning coastlines, Oregon is a picture-perfect destination for travel mood boards and trip inspiration. And it seems Aussies, who love outdoor adventures and road trips, are especially drawn to it. A quick Pinterest scroll fed us pictures of the incredibly dreamy Terwilliger (Cougar) Hot Springs, 37-metre Toketee Falls, fairytale-like Redwoods National Park and breathtaking Crater Lake National Park – the deepest lake in the US.
Supporting this trend, Expedia’s Air Hacks Report also named Portland, Oregon’s largest city, as one of Australia’s top trending travel destinations for 2026. The state also landed 30th on the New York Times’ 52 Places to Go list for 2026, shouting out new attractions like the James Beard Public Market, the expanded Portland Art Museum and the new professional women’s basketball team.
The other top trending destinations for Australian Pinterest users provide similar nature-filled, culturally rich experiences. Kerala, a tropical state in southern India that recently welcomed record visitor numbers, saw the second‑highest jump in searches, up 31 per cent year-on-year. We can already picture ourselves strolling along its palm-lined beaches and climbing its lush, tea-covered hills.
Other affordable holiday spots like Malaysia and Indonesia are also trending with Aussies this year, while Cape Town, Wales and Switzerland are quietly climbing the ranks (and racking up the pins).
