Flash those pearly whites and say “G’day mate” loud and proud. It turns out that Australian twang is a lot more charming than we might think. In fact, new research has revealed that Aussie accents are considered one of the friendliest in the world.

The study into accent bias stems from recent findings that six out of ten people believe that others make subconscious judgements about them based on their accent or how they speak. MinimumDepositCasinos.org delved deeper into the topic, polling 5,000 people globally to determine which countries were deemed as having the most and least friendly accents.

Australia rarely tops the charts as one of the world’s ‘most friendly’ nations, but it seems our accent is doing the hard yards. Almost ten per cent of respondents considered our accent to be friendly, ranking us as the third friendliest accent overall. You beauty!

Results were even sweeter for Americans who topped the list, with one in five stating the American accent as the friendliest. The British accent was the second most friendly, with Canadian and German accents rounding out the top five.

Here are the top ten most friendly-sounding accents, as rated by respondents:

  1. American
  2. British
  3. Australian
  4. Canadian
  5. German
  6. French
  7. Scottish
  8. Italian and Austrian
  9. Spanish and Irish
  10. Indian
