The Australian property market is red hot right now! House prices are hotter than a snag sizzling on a Bunnings barbecue, and apartments are getting snapped up before they’re even listed online. If you’re curious about where the competition is fiercest, new data has revealed the most in-demand suburbs for home ownership across Australia – and it’s all happening in New South Wales and Queensland.

To find Australia’s top ten most sought-after suburbs from the past year, the team at realestate.com.au analysed all enquiries per house listing on their site (focusing on suburbs where at least 30 properties were sold).

Eight of the top ten suburbs are in NSW, with Werrington, a relatively affordable residential neighbourhood in the City of Penrith, topping the list as the nation’s most in-demand location to buy a home. Over the past 12 months, it recorded a staggering average of 150 enquiries per house listing, just edging out St Marys in Western Sydney at 144 enquiries. Sydney's Coogee followed in third with 133 house enquiries, with Rose Bay in fourth on 131.

Queensland was the only other state to crack the top ten, with Forestdale – a semi-rural residential area located 30 minutes from Brisbane – landing as the fifth-most popular suburb, with 129 enquiries. Rocklea, another suburb south of Brisbane, ranks just behind.

A similar trend played out for units, with Goodna in Queensland's Ipswich topping the list as the most sought-after spot to buy an apartment. It recorded an average of 113 enquiries per unit. You can check out the full report here, or scroll down to see our snapshot of the results.
