Noosa Heads has topped Booking.com’s list of the most welcoming places in the world

If you’re looking for a place where the weather’s warm and the welcome’s even warmer, we know just the spot. Noosa has long been a popular seaside escape for Aussies craving sun, surf and serene vibes, but one standout suburb within the coastal region has just taken out the title of the most welcoming place on Earth for 2026.
Every year, Booking.com analyses more than 300 million verified customer reviews to determine the world’s most welcoming cities. From laid-back beach towns in Australia to historic hilltop towns in Italy and coastal gems in Taiwan, the 14th annual awards celebrate destinations known for hospitality that leaves a lasting impression with thoughtful touches, warm interactions, and hosts who go the extra mile.
Wedged between golden beaches and lush hinterland, Noosa Heads has been crowned not only the most welcoming place in Australia, but the friendliest town on Earth for 2026. This jewel of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is a paradise for anyone seeking a sandy-toed getaway, a soothing spa retreat or a dash of adventure. You can swim at secluded coves in Noosa National Park, eat your way along the buzzing Hastings Street (we recommend the newly opened Cibaria Noosa), surf world-renowned waves and even swim with humpback whales (who are just as friendly as the locals).
Last year’s most welcoming town, Montville – a charming village in the Sunshine Coast hinterland – takes out the runner-up spot as Australia’s second friendliest place for 2026. Western Australia’s Margaret River Town holds onto third place, with Queensland’s Maleny, Victoria’s Ocean Grove and Daylesford, South Australia’s Port Lincoln and Tasmania’s Bicheno all reappearing in the top ten. Newcomers for 2026 include Port Campbell in Victoria and St Helens in Tasmania – and we have no doubt they’ll receive a very warm welcome from the existing towns.
