Order the: Big Tony – tomato, mushrooms, pepperoni, red onion, jalapenos, LP cheese blend, pepper

Almost a decade has passed since Hobart’s cult-followed pizzeria first opened in Berridale, which means the team is clearly doing something right. It’s impossible to go wrong when ordering a pizza here, with gluten-free folks and vegepals well looked after too. Risk it all with the Big Tony, featuring a tomato base, mushrooms, pepperoni, red onion, jalapenos, LP cheese blend and cracked black pepper. PS: Their weekly specials also slap, and we won’t judge you if you opt for one of those instead.

Address: Bellerive & Berriedale

Opening hours: Wed-Thur 5pm-8pm; Fri-Sat 5pm-8.30pm; Sun 5pm-8pm

Order the: King Kofta – capsicum base, lamb kofta, mozzarella, roast capsicum, herb yogurt, red onion, za’atar, herbs

Come get a slice of Italy at this bright pink pizzeria, also by the team behind Local Pizza. All pies are cooked in a disco-ball oven, which makes sense considering that there are disco balls of all shapes and sizes dotted around the dining room. The pizza menu is as playful as the decor, with names like Bubby G, BBQ Bird, Wild Child and Spuf Lyf. However, the King Kofta is the most popular, with a capsicum base, lamb kofta, mozzarella, roast capsicum, herb yogurt, red onion, za’atar and chopped herbs.

Order the: Fonduta – fondue sauce, ham, mozzarella, fried potato rösti, provolone, parmesan, basil

With heaps of outdoor picnic table-style seating, it’s the perfect place for casual summertime pizza and sundowners, with spritzes and cocktail jugs on the menu. As for the pizza, try the Fonduta with legit fondue sauce, or the Bob Brown with broccoli, kale, green olives and cheese, named for the father of the Tasmanian Greens party. All pizzas are made with Room For A Pony’s housemade sourdough bases, and there’s a bunch of vegetarian and vegan options.

Local takeaway favourite Pep Pizza is a great option if you’re looking to order in for a chill night on the couch. A dough-slinging staple since 2009, Pep has four locations across Hobart and its surrounds – Lindisfarne, Huonville, Kingston Beach and Austins Ferry. Pep serves up comforting classics like capricciosa, barbecue chicken and Margherita, but also offers some more exotic options. Try out the Pumpkin Blues, which combines roasted pumpkin, gorgonzola and prosciutto; The Ranch with its indulgent combo of fried chicken and maple bacon; or the Salmon, which comes topped with some of the Huon River’s finest smoked fish.

Locals swear by Da Angelo, which has been serving Italian deliciousness in bustling Battery Point for more than 30 years. A humble family-run ristorante with walls lined with nostalgic photos, this place prides itself on great service and authentic Italian cuisine, and its pizza is some of the best you’ll find outside of Napoli. Treat yourself to housemade garlic bread, a couple of pizzas and a Caprese salad on the side, and top it all off with a tiramisu and a cheeky shot of limoncello. Who needs a Euro summer when you can be in Hobart?
