Singapore is one of the world’s most exciting cities to explore after dark and that’s not just coming from us – the Lion City has been ranked in the top five cities in the world for its night tourism. The night lights are electrifying, the food and drinks are on point, and most of all, the streets are safe.

We’ve rounded up the best places to visit in Singapore when the sun goes down that go beyond your usual tourist-y spots. These are the hottest destinations and activities that our Time Out Singapore editors and locals hit up on the regular. Happy exploring.

Pay a visit to Chinatown

Chinatown is a kaleidoscope of colour. With so many exciting joints to explore, here are a few you should add to your hit list: Kok Sen for zi char (cosy share plates); longstanding establishment Spring Court; Chinatown Street market’s trinket souvenir stalls and hawkers; Smith Street Taps for beers; and herbal tea at Amacha. Don’t be afraid to explore the surrounding areas like Ann Siang for popular bars like Native and Sago House.

Shop ’til you drop in Bugis

There’s nothing better than a little retail therapy – especially when said retail therapy comes at majorly discounted prices. How’s that for an extra dopamine hit? Bugis is an uber-cool neighbourhood with an Arabic influence. You’ll find outlet stores like Adidas, Calvin Klein, Kate Spade and Michael Kors at Bugis Junction, bustling independent retailers at Bugis Street Market, and high fashion labels at Bugis+.

Go on a Night Safari

We bet you’ve seen and done the whole zoo experience before, but what about immersing yourself in the wild come nighttime? Some of the world’s most interesting animals come to life when the sun goes down and Mandai Wildlife Reserve’s Night Safari experience is your chance to see all the action. This dimly lit zoo is divided into seven geographical zones that you can explore on foot via its four walking trails or by tram. Animals that call this place home include the Asian elephant, Tasmanian devil, white African lion, sloth bear and clouded leopard.

Stroll through Gardens by the Bay

It’s undeniable that Singapore’s 101 hectare span of marvellous foliage and architecture is a sight to behold at any time of the day, but let your senses alight at dusk. From 7.45pm Garden Rhapsody begins – the towering supertrees light up and synchronise to tunes ranging from classic movie soundtracks and musical theatre to peaceful cultural melodies. Admission to the marvel is free so pop in and stay for a little while to explore the other attractions like the OCBC Skyway for sparkling views of Marina Bay Sands.

Have some R&R at a 24-hour spa

We couldn’t think of a better place to kick back for an hour (or five) than Singapore’s largest 24-hour spa complex, G.spa. For $95AUD, you'll get unlimited usage of opulent male and female hot and cold pools, a sauna, steam room and showers all day. Swimming trunks, robes and towels are all provided, so just bring yourself. Fret not about being separated from your partner, because there are common areas where you can relax and get some shut-eye on comfy couches with personal TV screens. There's also an all-you-can eat à la carte buffet throughout the day, so it’s pretty easy to get your money’s worth here.

Hit up a secret bar

Hidden away from view, these speakeasies are private enclaves only for those in the know. Cosy up with your date away from prying eyes or avoid bumping into an old match you ghosted at one of your regular haunts. We've got speakeasies hidden behind restaurants like Roxy, and bars hiding in plain sights, like The Other Room. Check out this round-up of the secret cocktail bars by our Time Out Singapore editors where you can unwind and disappear from the world.
