Like most of the Barcelona coastline, the beach at Bogatell was completely overhauled during the 1980s, and these days it’s one of the most popular. According to the city, the average age of the Bogatell beachgoer is the oldest of all the beaches: 38. A good number of them (30 percent) are visitors.

I wasn't expecting beautiful beaches in a city and was surprised at the quality. Platja del Bogatell is just 2 beaches along from the main strip and it's completely worth the extra walk (or short train ride). It's a lot quieter than Barceloneta beach, there's sand aplenty, and a great spot to catch the waves.
