Ridley Scott. USA, 1979. VOSE. 117 '.

Once more, summer at CosmoCaixa, one of Barcelona's main science centres, means open-air cinema in its Plaza de la Ciencia. Every Thursday in July and the first in August sees film screenings in the square, preceded by a concert to get you in the cultural mood (tonight it's jazz manouche courtesy of Tumchak, 9pm). This year's season is inspired by the exhibition 'Talking Brains', with various movies that look at different ways of communicating that humans have created, a theme that has been fully embraced by the film world in recent times. The inaugural screening features 'Alien', the 1979 film that saw Sigourney Weaver gain instant fame as a screen heroine after she faced up to the eponymous extraterrestrial that was killing the crew members of the Nostromo spaceship. This is an iconic sci-fi film and the first in what became a long-running saga that directors including James Cameron and David Fincher signed on for.
