Old-school Castilian is a surprisingly uncommon look among Barcelona’s restaurants, and the ging- ham tablecloths, oak barrels and cartwheels hung at Mesón Jesús are a novelty. The menu is limited and never changes, but the dishes are good and inexpensive to boot – try the sautéed green beans with ham to start, then the superb grilled prawns or a tasty zarzuela (fish stew). The waitresses are cheerful with a largely non-Spanish-speaking clientele, and especially obliging when it comes to dealing with children.
