Time Out says

The Photographic Archive of Barcelona was founded in 1931 and now boasts more than two million photos dating back to 1839 and right up to the 21st century. Most of the photos feature Barcelona itself as the subject.
The archive exists thanks to donations and collaborations by pro and amateur photogs alike, and the City Hall has even contributed from its own archives. Aside from storage and work spaces, the archive also now has a new exhibition room where it periodically displays featured works.
