This is Donizetti's second most featured opera in the history of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, a popular show that this time has the big draw of Juan Diego Flórez making his debut in the role of Edgardo. In addition to the Peruvian tenor, the show also features other prestigious singers such as Elena Mosuc, María José Moreno, Ismael Jordi and Marco Caria, among others. The production comes from the Zurich Opera, with musical direction by Marco Armiliato and stage direction by Damiano Michieletto.

Saw it via cinema connection in Madrid. Singing was absolutely amazing. Staging is Ho hum especially when Lucia comes down from the bedroom to sing the mad scene and is just wearing her white wedding dress. No blood. No dagger. Very odd. Killed the mood, as it were. However, if you can ignore the sparse set, modern cum Second World War costumes then go for the singing. Florez and Mosuc are truly incredible. Caria and Orfila are so good that you can almost expect them to get their own spin off! Go see it. Ignore the set and hear some of the best singing you will have heard for many a year.
