This is the last in the series of performances from New York's Metropolitan Opera House that are broadcast in cinemas around the world. It's a one-act opera by Richard Strauss in nine scenes, with a libreto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, based in turn on the homonymous Greek tragedy of Sophocles. As always, it's shown live and in high definition.
